Grow a Garden Mutations — All Types, Multipliers & How to Get (2026)

Every Grow a Garden mutation with the exact multiplier verified in-game. Stacking formula, weather triggers, pet sources, fused mutations — all on one page. No signup. Last updated May 6, 2026.

Quick Answer

Grow a Garden has 60+ mutations that multiply crop Sheckle values. The highest is Abyssal at 240x, formed by fusing Eclipsed and Voidtouched. Voidtouched (135x) is the highest single mutation from weather. Celestial is 120x (not 100x as many sites claim). Shocked is 100x from Thunderstorm. The stacking formula is: Weight × Variant × [1 + Sum of mutations − Count]. Last updated: May 2026.

What Mutations Actually Are

A mutation is a modifier that appears on a harvested crop and multiplies its base Sheckle value by a fixed amount. That's the whole mechanic. Simple in concept, complicated in execution because there are over 60 of them, they interact in non-obvious ways, and the stacking formula isn't what most players assume.

Two things trip people up most:

  • First, Celestial is 120x, not 100x. Almost every community guide still lists 100x because that was the old value before a patch changed it. If your calculator says Celestial is worth 100x, it's wrong.
  • Second, mutations don't just multiply each other. The formula has structure. Understanding it is the difference between calculating your crop value correctly and being off by a factor of ten.

Both of these are covered below.

The Stacking Formula — How Mutations Actually Calculate

Final Crop Value = (Weight ÷ Base Weight) × Variant × [1 + (Sum of all mutations) − (Number of mutations)]

Three separate brackets. Applied in order.

Step 1 — Weight

Weight multiplier = Crop weight ÷ Base weight for that crop type.

This is quadratic — doubling your crop's weight doesn't double the value, it quadruples it. Most players miss this. The weight multiplier applies first, before variants and mutations touch the value.

Step 2 — Variants

Variants are Silver (5x), Gold (20x), and Rainbow (50x). Only one variant per crop. Applied as a direct multiplier after weight.

Key thing most players get wrong: Rainbow is not a regular mutation. It's a variant. It doesn't go in the environmental mutation pile. It multiplies everything else after the bracket resolves.

Rainbow also has a condition most guides skip: the Butterfly pet only applies Rainbow when the crop already has 5 or more environmental mutations active. Without that threshold, no Rainbow from the Butterfly. The Random 0.1% chance and Rainbow Fertilizer don't have this requirement.

Step 3 — Environmental Mutations

This is the bracket:

[1 + (Sum of all multipliers) − Number of mutations]

These mutations stack additively inside the bracket. They do not multiply each other.

Example with Shocked (100x) + Wet (2x):

[1 + (100 + 2) − 2] = 101

Combined with Gold variant on a 2x weight crop:

2 (weight) × 20 (Gold) × 101 (bracket) = 4,040x total multiplier

Real Example calculation

Moon Melon (600,000 base), 2x weight, Gold variant, Shocked + Wet:

Weight: 2 × 600,000 = 1,200,000 Gold: × 20 = 24,000,000 Bracket: × 101 = 2,424,000,000 Sheckles

Use the Mutation Calculator on the homepage for any combination — it handles this formula automatically.

About Cosmic and Abyssal: Both are 240x — which looks great until you do the math. The source mutations for Cosmic (Aurora 90x + Celestial 120x) stack to 12,960x using the bracket formula. The fused Cosmic gives 240x. Fusion is not always an upgrade. If you're deliberately running Aurora + Celestial stacks, avoid pets or gear that simultaneously boost both, or you'll trigger the fusion and lose value.

Mutation Tier List — Where to Focus Your Time

Not every mutation is worth chasing. Here's an honest ranking by farming effort vs. Sheckle return.

S-Tier

Chase These

  • Voidtouched (135x) — Highest standard weather mutation in the game. Triggerable with planning. If a Black Hole event is active, stop doing anything else and farm.
  • Celestial (120x) / Meteoric (125x) — Meteor Shower events are regular and farmable. Stack your best seeds before a Meteor Shower and harvest during. These two often appear together.
  • Shocked (100x) — The best mutation to farm for new-to-mid players. No pet required. Thunderstorm is a standard weather event. If you're reading this and not farming Shocked yet, start.
  • Zombified (25x) from Chicken Zombie pet — 20% chance per 30 minutes is extremely reliable for a 25x multiplier. If you own a Chicken Zombie, use it on your best crops continuously.
A-Tier

Worth Having

  • Sundried (85x) — Heatwave weather is rarer than Thunderstorm but 85x is significant. If a Heatwave is active, it's worth stopping for.
  • Blazing (52x) — The fusion of Molten (25x) + Flaming (25x). Both are obtainable via Lobster Thermidor and Phoenix pets respectively. Plan the fusion if you have both pets.
  • Frozen (10x) — Easy to farm. Keep crops wet during any Frost event. Low effort for a reliable 10x. Good for mid-game stacking.
B-Tier

Helpful, Not Worth Chasing Specifically

  • Bloodlit (5x) — Blood Moon events are common and it's a passive bonus. Just farm normally during Blood Moon.
  • Pollinated (3x) — Bee Swarm events are frequent. Easy addition to any stack.
  • HoneyGlazed (5x) — Bear Bee pet applies it passively. Good if you have the pet, not worth grinding for otherwise.
C-Tier

Take It If It Comes, Don't Farm It

Wet, Chilled, Windstruck, Moonlit, Glimmering. These are 2-3x. Fine inside a larger stack, not worth a dedicated session.

Weather Events — What to Farm During Each One

Weather EventMutations AvailableBest Strategy
ThunderstormShocked (100x)Leave S-tier crops in ground. Don't harvest before the storm starts.
Meteor ShowerCelestial (120x), Meteoric (125x)Best weather event for consistent high-value mutations. Farm your best seeds.
Black HoleVoidtouched (135x)Rarest standard event. Drop everything and farm when it's active.
Solar EclipseEclipsed (20x)Farm Eclipsed if you're building toward Abyssal (needs Voidtouched + Eclipsed).
Crystal BeamShocked (100x), Celestial (120x), Aurora (90x), Silver variantThree high-value mutations simultaneously. Prime farming window.
HeatwaveSundried (85x), Solar Flare bonusStrong event. Farm your best crops.
Tropical RainDrenched (5x)Better than Rain/Wet. Good setup for Frozen fusion in next Frost event.
FrostChilled (2x) → Frozen (10x) if pre-WetAlways pre-wet crops before Frost to convert to Frozen.
Blood MoonBloodlit (5x) + general boostPassive bonus. Farm normally.
Bee SwarmPollinated (3x)Stack with other active mutations.
Brainrot PortalBrainrot (100x)Same multiplier as Shocked. Rarer event.
TornadoTwisted (5x), Cyclonic (50x from Griffin pet)Medium value. Farm if crops are ready.

Farming Strategies by Goal

Goal: Maximum Sheckles Per Hour

Priority order for mutations to set up:

  1. Check event timer before starting — is Thunderstorm, Meteor Shower, or Black Hole incoming?
  2. If yes: plant S-tier seeds now, they'll mature during peak mutation window
  3. Apply max-weight fertilizer at 75–80% crop growth
  4. Farm with a friend active in server for 1.5x boost
  5. Run Chicken Zombie pet on your best plot continuously (25x every 30 min)

Goal: Getting Abyssal

Hardest non-admin-event mutation. Requires:

  • Solar Eclipse weather → Eclipsed (20x) on a crop
  • Black Hole weather → Voidtouched (135x) on same crop
  • Both mutations coexist → fuses into Abyssal (240x)

These weather events don't come at the same time. The strategy is:

  1. Get Eclipsed during Solar Eclipse, don't harvest that crop
  2. Wait for Black Hole event, target the same crop
  3. If Voidtouched applies to that crop, Abyssal forms

This takes multiple sessions and patience. There's no shortcut.

Goal: Reliable Mid-Game Income

Shocked (100x) is your target. Here's the efficient loop:

  1. Plant your highest-base crop before any Thunderstorm
  2. Let it grow during the storm
  3. Apply max-weight fertilizer at 75–80% growth
  4. Harvest after the storm ends — Shocked likely triggered
  5. Check the calculator for exact value before selling

Common Mistakes — Why Your Mutations Aren't Worth What You Expect

01

You're harvesting before mutations trigger.

Mutations apply at harvest time based on current weather conditions, not when the crop was planted. If you harvest during clear weather right before a Thunderstorm starts, you miss the Shocked mutation entirely.

02

You're treating Rainbow like a regular mutation.

It's a variant. It multiplies the entire bracket. If your crop shows Gold variant, don't be upset — Gold still multiplies everything by 20x. The math is good. People undervalue Gold because Rainbow exists.

03

You're not tracking the Amber chain.

Amber (10x) → OldAmber (20x, 24 hours) → AncientAmber (50x, 2 days). If you have a high-base crop with Amber, consider leaving it unharvested for two days. AncientAmber is a 50x variant you got for free by waiting.

04

You're fusing mutations you shouldn't.

Cosmic (240x) sounds great. But Aurora (90x) + Celestial (120x) stacks to: [1 + (90 + 120) − 2] = 209x inside the bracket, then multiplied by your variant. With Rainbow that's 50 × 209 = 10,450x. The fused Cosmic gives you 240x then times Rainbow = 12,000x. In that specific case, fusion wins. But without Rainbow, stacking often beats the fused result. Check the calculator before letting a fusion happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Celestial 100x or 120x in Grow a Garden?

120x. Multiple community wikis still show 100x because that value predates a patch. The current in-game value is 120x, verified May 2026.

Q: What's the best mutation to farm for beginners?

Shocked (100x) from Thunderstorm weather. No pet required, no event pass, just plant your best seeds before a Thunderstorm and harvest during or after. It's the highest multiplier accessible to new players without any special equipment.

Q: Can a crop have more than one mutation?

Yes. A crop can have multiple environmental mutations stacked simultaneously. They combine inside the bracket formula: [1 + (sum of all multipliers) − number of mutations]. The higher the individual multipliers, the more impactful each additional one is.

Q: What triggers the Frozen mutation specifically?

Frozen (10x) is a fused mutation. Your crop needs to be Wet (from Rain or a Sprinkler) and then Chilled (from Frost weather) before harvest. Both mutations need to be active on the same crop at harvest time. You can also get it from Sushi Bear or Polar Bear pets, and the Flower Froster Sprinkler gear.

Q: Do admin event mutations happen regularly?

Admin Abuse events are unscheduled. Developers run them occasionally and announce them in the official Grow a Garden Discord (#announcements). The mutations from admin events — like Jandel Storm (Shocked 100x source), Flamingo Storm, and Laser Storm (Plasma 5x) — are the same as or overlapping with standard mutation values. They're worth catching for their event-specific drops, not necessarily for unique mutation values.

Q: Is Voidtouched or Abyssal better to farm for?

Voidtouched (135x) is farmable during Black Hole weather. Abyssal (240x) requires both Solar Eclipse (Eclipsed) and Black Hole (Voidtouched) on the same crop — a multi-session setup. For practical farming, Voidtouched is the target. Abyssal is the endgame goal when you're specifically building toward maximum output.

Q: Why did the Friendbound mutation appear on my crop?

Friendbound (70x) triggers when a Friendship Pot item has fully grown and you have 5 friends present in the same server. It's a social mechanic rather than a weather one. If you play in a group regularly, this is a high-value passive mutation worth setting up.
